Scott Malcom: News

What a Summer! - September 6, 2006

What a wonderful summer for Scott. With the Georgia show and the Massachusetts trip, this will be one to remember! In August, Scott embarked on a journey to Provincetown, Massachusetts with Steve to enjoy the life in P-Town. Scott and Steve played on red clay tennis courts for the first time, biked the sand dunes, climbed the Pilgrim monument, kayaked in the bay, and just generally had a wonderful time. Once Scott was back in town, he sang the Star-Spangled Banner for the Dairyland Classic softball tournament in Milwaukee. The next day he had a pretty bad stumble on the field trying to make a play at second base and separated his shoulder. So...playing the piano is on hold for now, but Scott is going to try to hold on to his September 16th show at The Mosaic. Come out and cheer for the gimp!

Good Vibes! - July 29, 2006

On July 29th, Scott returned to The Mosaic for a night of old favorites and brand new compositions. One of the lighter moments was Scott's rendition of "Raspberry Beret," a fun little tune written and performed by Prince. People were singing along, and smiles were contagious. Scott also debuted "Fanfare for the Common Man," a song written in response to the proposed legislation in Wisconsin regarding marriage. It was good to see so many familiar faces as well as some new ones. New fans are always welcome!

Semi-finals will have to do. - July 21, 2006

Unfortunately, Scott was not chosen as one of the 6 finalists in the IMWS--Independent Musicians World Series. He was chosen as one of the 120 semi-finalists, but the competition was fierce for the finals. He will be ok. The "Scott Lost" fund is being set up as we speak. Send money! (Just kidding!...not really.)

Scott a Guest Artist? - July 16, 2006

Yes....it's true. Scott was a guest artist July 15th at a perfromance of a local band named Rhythm & Torch. Rhythm & Torch consists of 3 members...a percussionist, a pianist, and a vocalist. Man, that Yolanda can wail! It was pure pleasure. After the intermission, Scott was asked to come up and sing 2 selections from "Shine." He sang "Shine" and "The Bridge of Brady." Afterwards, he went nextdoor and performed 5 more selections for the crowd at The Intermezzo. Too much fun! What a great night...maybe the word is spreading!

Madison Show Deemed A Success! - July 15, 2006

It was such a pleasure for Scott to take his music outside the city limits of Milwaukee once more to the beautiful city of Madison, WI. The piano was tuned, the lights were low, and the acoustics were off the hook! Thanks to the Madison crowd for making Scott feel so welcome, and a special thanks to the Milwaukee crowd who traveled to see the show. The show started at 8:00, and Scott wrapped up around 11:00. Afterwards, Scott wanted to experience the nightlife of Madison, but went home and went to bed instead. Poor baby...such hard work!

IMWS Semi-Finals! - July 13, 2006

Good news...Good news! Scott has been chosen as An Independent Musician World Series semi-finalist for the Mid-West. A&R screeners worked through an impressive 1,104 submissions and have selected 120 Semi-Finalists in the MIDWEST. Entries were judged on Overall Vibe, Songwriting, Vocal/Lead Instrument Performance, and Talent/Performance. Six acts from this exclusive list will be chosen to perform at the Elbo Room in Chicago on August 17th. Finalists will be announced on July 21st. Wish Scott some serious luck...send good vibes!

Oh What a Night! - July 5, 2006

The Social Circle show was an awesome time. Many people showed up to hear Scott perform. Several of his highschool friends came to celebrate, and much of his family was there to enjoy the night. Some members of the audience arrived at the Social Circle Theater with Scott Malcom Fanclub buttons on their shirts. Too funny! Scott debuted his new song "Pretty Little Ball of Hate." The audience seemed to enjoy it because spurts of laughter were heard throughout the song! The Social Circle Theater turned out to be the perfect setting for Scott's music, and with interesting backdrops and candle-lit tables, the show was a hometown hit! Many thanks need to go out to all the locals who made the performance possible. It was fun...let's do it again sometime! Check out the new pictures of the Social Circle show. What a night!

A Show in Madison! - June 23, 2006

Ok...so Scott has been known to talk about finding a place to play in Madison...you've probably heard it. Well....(drum roll here)...he has a show lined up! He will be performing at the Capital Hill Grill in beautiful downtown Madison on July 14th. The location is 380 W. Washington Ave. The time will be 8:00 p.m. If you know of anyone in the Madison area that would enjoy this performance, get on the phone and let 'em know! As always...there is no cover and CDs will be for sale at the "show" price. He will be signing CDs and anything else you want signed!...well almost anything. It's time for Scott to branch out....come join him!

Show in the South! - June 15, 2006

Yes...it's true...Scott is coming home to perform for one night only. The venue is the Social Circle Theater...the time is 7:00 p.m....the cost is FREE! YIPEE! Nothing would be better than to have a good crowd to come and listen, so spread the word you Georgia folks! As always, CDs will be for sale. Heck, bring one you've already bought, and Scott will sign that one for ya, I bet!

A Deep South Performance? - June 5, 2006

It looks like Scott might be performing in his home town of Social Circle, Georgia this summer. The way things are looking now, he might be performing in late June or early July. Scott has performed sacred music many times in his hometown church of Social Circle Methodist, but he has never performed his secular repertoire. People are working behind the scenes to make this happen. Thank you to Scott's Georgia peeps! lol We'll keep you posted. Round up the folks...it looks like we're headed for a family reunion!

What a Wonderful World! - May 21, 2006

What a wonderful crowd for the May 20th performance! Madison was well represented, as was Chicago and Milwaukee. Some people just strolling by came in for the show. What a night! Scott's newest song "Oil and Vinegar" went over very well...the piano probably didn't like that one, though! Stay tuned for upcoming showtimes for this summer. Yay! Summer!

So my horoscope says... - May 19, 2006

OK....so Scott's horoscope says that big things are in store and he needs to aim for the stars. He's aiming...He's aiming!...still waiting on that big break. The results from the Independent Musician World Series competition are due in July. He's heard no news from the Simon Cowell camp...that prolly means that the show will go on without Scott there to scream and yell about injustices and croon about love. Love? what's that? lol On a brighter note, Scott just mailed his CD to a bunch of peeps...maybe something will happen. We'll see! Many thanks to the people that continue to support Scott at his shows. We might even go as far to say that he has a small fan club! I know the Georgia-based fan club is brewing with activity. Thanks Laura! "It's been a long time coming, and it's good to see you again."

Good times had by all! - April 29, 2006

At Scott's April show, he explained how certain songs came to be and entertained the audience with little related anecdotes. The Madison crew was once again well represented along with other local repeat offenders. "Act of Contrition" was Scott's new addition to the repertoire. It was actually an older song, but never performed live. Lots of laughter....good times!

Back in Town and Ready for a Show! - April 23, 2006

Scott returned to Milwaukee on April 23rd from a much-deserved break in Ft. Lauderdale with DD (good friend Dan). Scott and Dan did manage to meet two really nice travelers from St. Louis, Steven and Jeff. They bought a CD! Yay! It was a great trip. Scott's back in the artic. BRRRRR! It's time to rev up for the April 29th show at the Mosaic. Still no news from the "America's Got Talent" folks. Keep your fingers crossed and come to the show!!!!

America's Got Talent, Folks! - April 13, 2006

On April 13th, Scott auditioned for Simon Cowell's new television program entitled "America's Got Talent!" He arrived at the W Hotel in downtown Chicago around 9:30 a.m. with a digital piano, and he was finished with the audition process by 1:00 p.m. For his audition, he sang excerpts of Lazarus, You're Still Here, and when they asked for a cover, he sang part of Unchained Melody. You can rest assured they have never heard Unchained Melody like that before! There was a great variety of talent roaming around the hotel. We'll see if Scott makes the second round! Wish him luck! (and....no, Scott did not meet Simon. Simon was AWOL. He did meet a Milwaukee comedian, Ms. Ruthie, which was good fun! Good luck to Scott and Ms. Ruthie!)

Thanks for Comin', Y'all! - March 25, 2006

Scott had another successful show at The Mosaic on Milwaukee's fashionable East Side. He added a few covers, but did not stray far from his own music. One visitor to the show said that "covers are nice, but nothing compares to you singing your own stuff." What a compliment! Requests for the night included "Geneology," "Too Much," "More Today Than Yesterday," "When the Lights Go Out (The Shower Song)," "Place Your Bets," and "OK." Don't forget about Scott's April 29th show. His cover of "Unchained Melody" added a whole new angst-ridden dimension to a up-til-now beautiful love song.

Ok...so what's to lose? - March 8, 2006

It's official. Scott is entered in the IMWS (Independent Music World Series), the only independent music event that exposes musicians from every genre to music industry participants using impartial judging criteria and a live showcase finale. The goal of this competition is to discover and reward the best independent artists in the country. Entries are judged on Songwriting, Overall Vibe, Musical Performance, Vocal/Lead Instrument Performance, and Originality. Can Scott's music hold up to this scrutiny? We'll have to wait and see! Send happy thoughts, peeps.

Breathing Still - March 1, 2006

Scott's new song about dreams, "Breathing Still," is scheduled for his March show. Here's a small taste of the lyrics!

Sitting in an empty room
Void of all I ever knew
No sight, no sound, no motion,
Less the movement of my lungs as they still try to breathe.

Can I take one down,
put another back up?
When one dream cancels out another,
and the need to sing has stopped?
Strangled in a vise-like grip,
a grip that I embraced,
a grip I can still taste
told all my other dreams that they would have to wait.
But how long can you wait?

Everybody Sing! - February 25, 2006

What a great night! There were many familar faces as well new listeners at the Feb 25th show. Scott had a cold and due to his cold medication, he giggled a lot! The audience sang along on many songs, and they sang especially beautifully on "Now." Everybody sing...."Captain of the boat, can you throw a life preserver?" Scott debuted a new song entitled "Place Your Bets." This new one speaks metaphorically of a past relationship ending with a bet at the races. Because of a special request from the audience, Scott unearthed an old song, "More Today Than Yesterday," written 3 years ago as an anniversary gift. (Guess it didn't work!) Now that audience members are more familiar with Scott's music, the shows are becoming more interactive. Two thumbs up!

CD Release Party a Huge Success! - January 21, 2006

Scott's CD Release Party on January 21, 2006 was a huge success. He performed for a packed house...songs from the CD and some songs never performed before. At one point during the night, there was standing room only! With candles on every table and candles on the piano, Scott "shine-d" for his home crowd.

CD Release Party! - January 5, 2006

Scott's CD Release Party is set for January 21st starting at 9:00 p.m. at The Mosaic on Milwaukee's East Side. The address is 2624 N. Downer Ave, Milwaukee, WI. CDs will be on sale at the show for $10.00. There is no cover...just come and listen.

I got it. I got it. - January 3, 2006

Due to delays stemming from problems with the graphics, Scott's CD was delayed quite a bit. After much anticipation, Scott received his CDs on January 3, 2006. Patience is a virtue.

Time to let it go. - November 23, 2005

After working out the layout of the graphics, Scott handed over the CD to his good friend in Chicago, Michael. Michael was gracious enough to deliver the CD to Discmakers over his lunch break. This really helped get the ball rolling since Scott does have a full-time job! Thanks Michael!

Mrs. Jacobson to the rescue - November 11, 2005

On November 11, Scott and Amy take a walk in the park in search of some good pics. Not quite sure for what they were looking, they really liked what they ended up with...lots of laughter, a little exercise, and some really neat photos. Two in particular seemed to really fit the feel of the CD. Those two pics are featured on the front and back cover of the CD case. Thanks Amy! That was a very good day.

Mama, can you hear me? - October 7, 2005

The weekend of October 7th, Mama Malcom and sister Mollie fly up to Milwaukee from Social Circle, Georgia to hear what the buzz is about. They attend the show at the Mosaic along with excellent friends and jolly good times. Mama Malcom was very proud if not a little embarrassed at Scott's candor. That night the audience watched Mama for her reactions more than the guy at the piano. It's all good.
