Looking Down the Barrel

(Scott Malcom)

OK...so if one song is going to offend people, this is it! I feel that people who use religion as a weapon are missing the point. This song comes from years of listening to hate in the name of a higher power.

I met the Devil in a 4-leaf pamphlet last night

with the American flag draped over his shoulder.

With a crucifix in one hand

and an army ready to fight

in accordance with the laws of nature.

And the lines were drawn

REFRAIN

Now I'm looking down the barrel of a holy gun

My legs get weak and my thoughts, they seem to scatter

Looking down the barrel of a holy gun

and what I say, well, it just doesn't matter.

I saw the Devil in a nightmare last night

He was silent but his choir was singing

They sang "Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of might

Hosanna in the highest."

And the lines were drawn

REFRAIN

It all started with a letter to the Romans and a lie

you can use your scripture any way you want to.

Buckle up them overalls, Bubba,

and stand there with a sign

Yes, hate is the universal unifier.

And the lines were drawn.

Ready, Aim, Fire!

Can somebody cover up my eyes?

Can somebody give me my cigarette?

Give me the power to say what I never could say.

Give me time to plea my case

yes, it's hard to reason with a god and a gun in your face.
