The Boat

(Scott Malcom)
December 12, 2009
from Irrational Disposition album

Wow...what can I really say about this one without getting in trouble? If you know what this song is about, then great! Enjoy it! If you don't, then great! Enjoy it!

Standing on the starboard side

and I'm ready for a different ride

I got my ticket in my hand

and the captain smiles and walks away

and I think,

"What the hell, my brain's on fire

and mutiny is on the wire.

Maybe we traded the witch for the devil this time."

REFRAIN

Oh does anybody know where the boat is headed?

and does anybody care that there's blood and water on the floor?

Oh, I think we're going down.

There it is...I said it.

Maybe if everybody holds their breath, we can float a little more.

A sudden turn to to right

somebody yells, "Hold on tight!"

The captain says we lost three people

and smiles and walks away

and I think,

"What the hell, does anybody see that the water is rising?

Am I on TV? There must be a candid camera pointed right at me!"

REFRAIN

1 Mississippi, 2, 3, 4, 5

How long can I hold my breath and stay alive?

6, 7, 8, 9, 10

I come up for air but I go down again!

1 Mississippi, 2, 3, 4, 5

How long will it take for help to arrive?

6, 7, 8, 9, 10

It looks like we might be going for a swim.

I can't do this anymore.

We're all gonna drown 20 feet from the shore!

The captain stands waist deep in the water,

smiles, and walks away

and I think,

"What the hell?" and I dive right in

I don't wanna talk about it; I'd just rather swim.

I guess it's best to keep looking forward

and remember where we've been.
